Frequently Asked Questions

Sometimes I will take custom orders if I think I can create something that will work with your vision for your project. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and ask! I am happy to work from reference photos, but I will not take on projects to replicate the colorways of other dyers.

I might! Please contact me to discuss.

Larger quantities of yarn in permanent, repeatable colorways on my regular bases are available here in my shop. Most yarn will be dyed to order in a few days and shipped asap, but if I have the yarn in stock, it will ship the next business day. For ready-to-ship and one-of-a-kind colorways, visit my Etsy shop.

I use professional acid dyes and citric acid, rinsed with Dawn dish soap.

Our yarns are sourced from South America and come from farms that do not practice muesling. Hand dyeing takes place in a smoke-free space in Connecticut.

Cats and a dog are present in my dye space. Pets are strongly discouraged from handling the yarn, but if you have a serious allergy, send me a note and I will take extra care with your order.

Even with superwash yarns, I always recommend that you hand wash gently with a mild wool wash. Despite careful rising during the dye process, it is possible that colors may bleed a bit. This is normal, even with commercial garments.

I’m sorry this happened to you! I’ve been there, and it’s definitely frustrating. I take a lot of care to prevent yarn from tangling during the dyeing process. But knots happen, especially with yarn that has been in a hank. Unfortunately, I cannot take returns for yarn that has been unskeined. I recommend that when you start to unwind your yarn, check for snags. If it doesn’t unwind easily, try winding in the other direction from the other end.

This is the nature of hand-dyed yarn and that’s why people love it so much: Each skein is unique. I do my best to mail out skeins from the same dye lot and to select skeins that are closely identical whenever possible. And have you ever worked with Malabrigo? They are one of my favorites, but wow, do their dye lots vary! For best results, try alternating the first several rows when joining a new ball of yarn. However, I do accept returns from yarn that is still in the skein and unused if you are not happy with your purchase. I cannot accept yarn as a return if it is in a ball or has been caked.
